Parent-child game training

The Parent Child Game (P-CG) is a well established behavioural and play-based intervention for children (aged 3-9) and their carers, presenting with behavioural and/or relationship difficulties. It is suitable for children who present as non compliant and oppositional and those whose relationships with carers have been compromised. It was originally developed in the U.S by Forehand and McMahon ,where it is well validated. P-CG was adapted for use in the U.K by Sue Jenner from the 1980’s onwards.  Jenner, S. (2000) The Parent /Child Game; the proven key to a happier familyBloomsbury and Jenner, S (2008) The Parent/Baby Game: The proven key to a loving family.  Bloomsbury

Courses are offered for up to 10 child mental health professionals, ideally working in pairs or larger groups from the same service. Training runs for 8 days over a period of several months to allow for homework and practice tasks to be completed. It includes experiential work and practice alongside more didactic presentations. A functioning P-CG suite (Observation room, play room, one way screen, AV equipment and radio mic)  is required to deliver the training and discounts are offered to hosting organisations. Departments willing to commission and host a course receive a free place for an attender of their choice and all attenders are eligible to receive one free supervision follow up session.

Ongoing P-CG supervision and individual top-up training is also provided. This can include live demonstration and modelling of the technique within a clinical setting if required.
